Many of you might have this fear “how would you get back to normal after undergoing surgery??? Gallbladder removal does not cause problems for most people, but not everyone is the same. Some people may experience mild to moderate discomfort post gallbladder surgery.
Gallbladder removal is done for a wide variety of reasons like gallbladder stones, choledocholithiasis, cholecystitis, and pancreatitis. Since the gallbladder is the storehouse of bile, after its removal there is no place for storage of bile in our body, leading to the adoption of certain lifestyle changes and diet patterns.
The recovery period and activity range depend upon the age at which the person undergoes surgery and the type of surgery. If the surgery is done during middle age, you can regain your strength to the same level as it was before surgery, whereas after 40, there are chances of some discomfort. Laparoscopic surgery allows faster recovery and healing as compared to open surgery.
Post-surgery be careful when it comes to the diet you are consuming. Confused about what to eat and what not to???
This blog can give you information for most of your doubts!!!!
As we said earlier, there is no storage of bile, and foods rich in fat should be avoided. Try consuming small meals rather than a large portion at a single meal. This may be a great disappointment to all the foodies!!! But logically speaking, health has to be prioritized over anything else, right?? Taking small, frequent meals instead is highly recommended not only for the patients but also for everyone. Including a high amount of fiber content in a daily diet can be beneficial. Avoid junk foods as they lack nutrients and only add to your weight and cholesterol. Choose boiled, steamed, or grilled foods to satisfy your cravings!!!
You must keep an eye on what you eat and what suits you because only you know the best version of yourself. So try to rule out the foods which cause discomfort to you, and avoid them. Cauliflower, cabbage, beans, nuts, and cereals often come on the list of foods causing discomfort.
Who doesn’t love to have a cup of refreshing coffee between work !!! But too much caffeine is not recommended after gallbladder surgery, since it increases the production of acid in the stomach, leading to acidity, bloating, and pain. It’s better to avoid, but if not at least you can limit the intake of caffeine. Alcohol has to be strictly avoided to ensure complete recovery.
The next important lifestyle change that you need to adapt to and that is frequently is to stay active physically and do regular exercise. Since your body needs time to heal itself and requires more time to digest than others, you can aid the digestion process by staying active. That doesn’t mean you have to get on your shoes the right next day. Give your body the required rest and then return to a healthy lifestyle depending on your physician’s advice.
To sum up, you are absolutely eligible to lead a perfectly normal and happy life after gallbladder removal, provided you follow simple dietary and lifestyle changes, that are intended for a healthy long life.
